RRB Station Master Recruitment: How to Check Official Vacancies and Apply

RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026 - Indian railway station

Station Master is one of the most popular non-technical posts in Indian Railways, recruited zone-wise through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB). From 2026 it has its own notice, CEN No. 08/2026, separate from NTPC. This guide explains that notice and how to apply - the official CEN notice on your regional RRB website is the only final source.

Official notice check (30 Oct 2026): the RRBs have now published CEN No. 08/2026 (Station Master). Online applications are open from 27.10.2026 to 25.11.2026 (23:59 hrs). Details below are from that CEN and the Ministry of Railways press release of 27 October 2026. Apply only on rrbapply.gov.in.

Key Points

  • Post: Station Master, recruited zone-wise by the RRBs - from 2026 under its own CEN (No. 08/2026), not inside the NTPC Graduate notice
  • Where to check for vacancies: your regional RRB website and the official application portal rrbapply.gov.in
  • Official source: the CEN advertisement published on the RRB website - only it confirms posts, dates, eligibility and fees for a cycle

What Does a Station Master Do?

A Station Master is in charge of train operations at a railway station - signalling, arrivals and departures, passenger safety and station staff. It is one of the most popular non-technical posts in Indian Railways.

Eligibility in Simple Words

  • Education: you must hold the degree by the last date; candidates awaiting final results should not apply.
  • Age by date of birth: for UR and EWS, born between 02.01.1994 and 01.01.2007 (both dates included). The CEN table gives the earliest allowed birth dates for OBC-NCL (02.01.1991) and SC/ST (02.01.1989), which already include the 3-year and 5-year community relaxation.
  • Other relaxations: Ex-Servicemen, serving railway staff and certain women candidates have separate limits in para 8.3 of the CEN; only the highest single relaxation applies.
  • On UR vacancies: SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates get no age relaxation.

How to Check Official Vacancies

RRB recruitments are announced through Centralised Employment Notices (CEN) on the regional RRB websites. To check for a Station Master vacancy, visit your regional RRB website or rrbapply.gov.in and look for the latest CEN. Do not rely on dates or vacancy counts circulating on job portals or social media until the official CEN confirms them.

How Applications Generally Work

In past cycles, applications have been submitted online through the official RRB portal: register, fill the form, upload documents and pay the fee as the notice directs. The notice for each cycle gives the exact process, fee and documents. Keeping your photo, signature and ID proof ready in advance saves time when a notice opens.

How to Apply on rrbapply.gov.in - Step by Step

  1. Download CEN 08/2026 from rrb.indianrailways.gov.in and read your RRB's vacancy row.
  2. On rrbapply.gov.in, log in with your existing account if you made one for a 2024-2026 CEN; otherwise "Create an Account" - those details cannot be changed later.
  3. Choose only ONE RRB. An application to more than one RRB leads to rejection of all your applications and debarment from future RRB and RRC exams.
  4. Fill the form; your date of birth must match your Class 10 certificate.
  5. Your photo is captured live by webcam or phone camera: plain white background, dark clothes, no cap, mask or spectacles.
  6. Upload your signature: JPG, 30-49 KB, running handwriting, black ink on white paper.
  7. Pay the fee online and save the confirmation - the form counts only after payment.

Documents Checklist

  • Class 10 certificate (date of birth) and graduation certificate or final mark sheet
  • Category certificate in the CEN format (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/EBC/Ex-Servicemen), if claimed
  • Signature scan, a webcam or phone camera, and a mobile number and email you will keep

Selection in Past Cycles

For NTPC posts such as Station Master, past cycles have typically involved a Computer Based Test (CBT), an aptitude test for Station Master candidates, document verification and a medical examination. Each official notice lists the exact stages, syllabus and exam pattern for its own cycle.

Selection Process (CEN 08/2026)

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): single stage, 100 questions in 120 minutes, 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer. Indicative sections: Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability (60), Logical Capability (20), Mental Reasoning (20). Minimum qualifying marks: UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL and SC 30%, ST 25%.
  2. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): 8 times the RRB-wise vacancies in each community are called; a minimum T-score of 42 is needed in each test battery, and the vision certificate in the CEN format must be produced. CBAT is in English and Hindi only.
  3. Document Verification and Medical Examination (A-2): merit uses 70% CBT and 30% CBAT marks.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying to two RRBs - every application gets rejected.
  • Signature in capital letters, non-black ink or on a coloured background (listed rejection grounds).
  • Applying while still waiting for the final degree result.
  • Trusting agents who promise a seat - the CEN says RRB has not appointed any agent.
